In the mid 2000s Billabong and Taylor Steele partnered to create “Trilogy”, featuring Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrow in pumping Indo, Mexico, Tahiti and more.
It was at the peak of all of three their powers, and at a time when Billabong sponsored the top names in surf.
A few years back, Billabong set out to remake that magic, except with Seth Moniz, Ethan Ewing and Griffin Colapinto.
Of course, these projects take time. And towards the end of the filming, Colapinto left ‘Bong for Quiksilver. A bummer, for sure (at least for Billabong), but not a reason to scrape the entire concept.
Now, finally, it’s here. Well, almost. At least the trailer is here, with the film set to drop later this year.
“Three elite surfers travel to eight remote destinations searching for pristine waves and an escape from the pressures of competition,” says the description alongside the trailer.
“‘Trilogy: New Wave’ is a documentary that follows Ethan Ewing, Griffin Colapinto, and Seth Moniz as they balance their demanding careers with lifelong friendship and a desire to rediscover the joy of surfing, free from contest scores.
“More than a decade has passed since Taylor Steele’s original Trilogy (2007) was released. Since then, surfing has transitioned from countercultural pastime to mainstream sport. Trilogy: New Wave examines this evolution with a new lens, offering an unexpected perspective of surfing’s present.
“Exploring their personal histories, motivations, and individual philosophies, Trilogy: New Wave charts three character studies against the backdrop of high performance, high action surfing. Ethan, Griffin, and Seth battle in heats with the world’s best while trying to maintain their love for the sport they dedicated their lives to pursuing.”
From the looks of the trailer above, this film will be worth the wait.
