At long last, Southern California’s premier synesthetic surf pool is back. In September, the Palm Springs Surf Club will return to its old self—assumedly—pumping out slabby tubes in the scorching desert, and attracting hordes of pro surfers and amateurs alike.
In an Instagram post, they announced:
“The stoke machine is coming back to life! We’re gradually bringing the waves back online and offering private sessions in September. We know the public is what you really want, and we’re working hard to get there—please bear with us as we work to get it right.
“For now, sessions will be available in 2-3 hour chunks, and we’ve already had some epic sessions this past week!”

Previously, the pool had reopened temporarily for a curious collaboration with a Coachella party back in April. The announcement read:
“We’re stoked to finally share that the wait is over!
“We thank you for your patience and for being apart of the Palm Springs Surf Club community & mailing list.
“Before we announce anywhere else online, we’re excited to let you know that surf sessions are now available and live on our website, ready to be booked.”
But then, it closed again. And again. Now, it’s back. Just like a game of will-they-or-won’t-they, it looks like they’re back on. And it looks like some practice sessions have been going down ahead of the September reopening, with usual suspects at the pool.
