An unidentified surfer has died in California.
The surfer’s lifeless body was recovered from the water in Santa Barbara on Wednesday, December 27, the Santa Barbara City Fire Department told Surfer.
According to Santa Barbara-based news source Noozhawk, a witness said, “A surfboard was discovered floating in the kelp bed offshore, prompting another surfer and a private boat to search for its owner.”
Noozhawk posted the story above on Wednesday and captioned it:
“Surfer’s Body Recovered from Ocean Off Santa Barbara”
The news source reported:
“Firefighters and other emergency personnel responded at about 12:15 p.m. to the incident below Mesa Lane, fire Battalion Chief Cory Cloud said.
“They found the deceased surfer and brought his body back to shore.
“Cloud said firefighters were canceled from the incident after it was determined that the surfer was dead.
“The Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol also responded to the incident, but a spokeswoman said Wednesday evening that no further information was available.”
It is currently unknown if the massive swell hitting the West Coast was a factor in the surfer’s death.
Surfer’s calls to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department have not been returned.
This is a developing story.
