Five-time world champ Carissa Moore shocked the surf world when she announced her retirement from competitive surfing in January.
Since then she’s published a new book and surfed her last heat as a full-time competitor during the Lexus Pipe Pro, which ironically, marked the start of the World Surf League’s 2024 Championship Tour.
But Moore has a spot secured in the upcoming Olympics in Tahiti, where she’ll be going for a repeat Olympic gold medal in July. In the video below, Team USA talks to Moore about the 2024 Paris Games at Teahupo’o.

“Woman to Woman: Surfing Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore is making waves in women’s surfing
“Surfing’s first Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore sits down to discuss the sisterhood of women’s surfing and her journey to Paris 2024.”
Women’s sports journalist Ari Chambers opens the video a bit starstruck (understandably), saying:
“Next to me is a freaking legend and five-time world champion and the first-ever Olympic gold medalist for women’s surfing.
“I love women in the water, there’s something so special about water women. What can you speak to about the sisterhood that is women’s surfing?”
Moore responds:
“I was one of one in the lineup as a woman, and now when go to any of my favorite spots at home there’s a handful of women or young girls. I am truly inspired by my peers and women, the strong women around me every day.
“Not only in the water, but outside of the water because they’re incredible role models. I just think it’s special to see that women are coming together in the ocean.”
The discussion continues for about three minutes total. Press play above to hear more about the sisterhood of surfing and Moore’s path to the Olympics.
