Remember the days when learning to surf meant grabbing a board, paddling out, and trying to imitate what other surfers were doing?
Nowadays, there’s surf schools galore, a “How To Surf” section right here at Surfer, and seemingly endless surfing tutorials online.
Pro surfer and world #7 Lakey Peterson is one of those surfers offering advice on how to surf online. In her latest episode of Pro Tips on her YouTube channel, she teaches the frontside snap.
Peterson captioned the video above:
“Welcome back to another Pro Tips video!
“In this video, we are looking at how to do the perfect frontside snap for surfing.
“The examples include myself, Mick Fanning, Ethan Ewing, and Filipe Toledo who are some of the better guys in the game.
“Remember that every step is crucial to performing the snap correctly so ensure you nail each one. It may also be helpful to focus on one step at a time…. this works for me!”
While introducing the 11-minute video, Peterson tells viewers that she’ll be “breaking down the snap.” Particularly, the video goes over a “down the line speed transition snap,” a “regular snap,” and a “closeout section and turn snap.”
She admits early on that the episode’s “quite in-depth,” but that’s because she believes in creating good habits from the get-go.
“So we’re gonna break it down step-by-step, and make sure that you have the best technique moving forward which will ensure really good style, and ultimately create the best snap that you can do,” she says.
She even brings in her husband, a surfer and doctor of osteopathy, to consult.
