Last week’s giant swell went bonkers in California as it wreaked havoc all along the coastline.
At Mavericks, a jet ski was on the run, a woman almost got swept out to sea, and a giant sneaker wave swept away people eyeballing big wave surfers.
In Ventura, a massive rogue wave moved a truck and sent eight people to the hospital while in San Diego, lifeguards rescued almost 100 people.
The clip above shows that animals weren’t safe either.
KSBW Action News 8 posted the video above on X, fka Twitter, a few days ago.
It’s captioned:
“DOG NEARLY SWEPT AWAY | A dog made a miraculous escape against high surf in Santa Cruz on Thursday. After being nearly washed out to sea, the dog was then thrown back onto the road by the surf.”
In the clip, the dog’s on the sand and starts to get pulled farther into the water by the backwash.
Behind the camera, a woman yells, “Oh no, oh no, oh no.”
A huge surge of whitewater pulls the dog farther out and underwater for a moment, before pushing it back to shore as it swims for its life.
Back on the sand the dog’s unphased, shakes off the water, and keeps going.
Viewers were not happy. See for yourself:
“Gee I wonder when theyre gonna invent a device that keeps dogs safe next to their owners Wouldnt that be something”
“Who is the idiot that let their dog play in high surf. They need their pets taken away.”
“Who are these people letting their dogs and kids play on the beach during these kinds of conditions?”
One viewer said they saw the owner:
“The owner was across the street by the lagoon and let his dog off and he jumped into the lagoon side and quickly was swepted under the tunnel and on to the beach where the video begins.”
