Legos have been around since 1932.
They’ve been used to make everything from cars to houses to scaled replicas of the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Death Star, etc.
And now, surfboards…
Okay, a bit of clarification, the surfboard in the video above isn’t technically built from Legos. Instead, it’s a regular surfboard with the deck covered in Legos. Just a tedious, nerdy little caveat to point out. Still, impressive.
The creation comes from Los Angeles-based surf filmer, Brad Jacobson, who captioned the quirky video as such:
“Building a surfboard made with Legos sounded like a good idea. It was way more difficult than I imagined but it was worth it… at least for me. Not as much can be said for Travis. Actually surfing it would be the true test.”
So, Brad made the board, then he had his test dummy, former pro surfer Travis Logie, try it out. Without a wetsuit. Or booties. In the freezing cold.
The result? Difficult, as expected. Painful, not so much expected, but understandable.
“That was one of the most painful things I’ve done in my life,” said Travis after the session. “I got destroyed. Everything was painful – carrying it, paddling on it, sitting on it, surfing on it. There’s about two million sharp edges on it. Who would’ve thought that Lego boards would be a bad idea, huh? [Laughs.]”
To which, Brad replied:
“You didn’t get blood on my board, did you?”
Visibly bleeding, Travis:
“Sorry, my bad.”
Good fun.
