Nathan Florence has surfed some of the world’s most insane, fear-inducing, gnarly waves in the world.
He won Ride of the Year for a death-defying wave at Mullaghmore Head, got pounded on the rocks at Jaws, charged a remote wedge in Europe, and surfed more waves that would inspire most surfers to watch from shore.
Or, from a boat, as John John decided to do on a recent surf trip to the Solomon Islands where he manned the dinghy watching over Nate. Below, you see why.
Nate captioned his latest vlog above:
“WHAT WE FOUND IN THE REMOTE PACIFIC! SOLOMON ISLANDS!”
Opening the edit, Nate says:
“We’re going on a grand adventure.”
After a flight to the Solomon Islands in Melanesia and an overnight boat ride to a massive wave in the middle of nowhere, Nate decides to surf.
Taking one for the team, John makes the executive decision to stay on the dinghy, watching out for his brother.
Nate paddles out into a “freight train” of a wave he calls super intimidating.
In the post-session recap, he says:
“John had prophesied that if we went out we’d get caught by a set and that’s kinda just what happened.
“Too big, too unruly, and too much water moving. Couldn’t get into position and then I was sitting a little off to the side, a lot of current and some of the craziest barrels coming through.
“Nine out of ten unmakeable, like maybe the wave of your life for about ten seconds and then maybe dead on the reef. And then I got caught by a huge one, the whole ocean folded over, and didn’t see that coming.
“A fifteen-footer landed on my head and I was done after that. I was over it.”
Press play above for a grand adventure.
