Salvador Villas-Boas is lucky to be alive.
The commercial airline pilot, not professional big-wave surfer, had his sights set on surfing massive waves at Nazaré, Portugal. And he got his wish back in 2019.
But, be careful what you wish for, as they say. Villas-Boas lost control after being towed into a massive wave, which sent him cartwheeling down the face, taking a couple waves on the head subsequently, and a jet-ski rescue gone wrong; watch the footage below:
The footage may be a few years old, but in this newly-released edit, it still sends shivers down the spine. An added, super tense soundtrack doesn’t hurt, either.
And check out the description for the video; it reads, almost comically, similar to a box office bio for a new horror/action/thriller movie:
“Prepare to be on the edge of your seat as you witness the heart-pounding story of Big Wave surfer Salvador Villas Boas, who faced one of the most intense wipeouts in Nazaré’s history. Salvador was on the brink of survival, and a daring rescue operation unfolded, but against all odds, it failed.
“In this jaw-dropping video, you’ll experience every heart-stopping moment of Salvador’s wild ride, captured in real original footage that has already taken the internet by storm. Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush as you watch the dramatic and thrilling rescue action that unfolded during this unforgettable wipeout.”
Check out the original raw footage of the wipeout below:
Spooky stuff.
Stay tuned for more Nazaré action (and wipeouts) as the winter season kicks into gear.
