Mason Ho’s had a fun winter surfing at home on Oahu’s North Shore.
He scored big Waimea Bay with his father, surf legend Michael Ho, kissed rocks during another session, and had a lot of fun surfing with friend and pro surfer, Sheldon Paishon.
Not long ago, Ho got off the rock. He scored an invite to the new and improved Palm Springs Surf Club and a barrel-filled session at Newport Beach’s notorious gnarly shore break, The Wedge.
The edit above, shot by Nathan Baker and released on Ho & Pringle Productions’ YouTube channel is captioned:
“Mason Ho sneaks to Southern California for a quick surf at the world-famous Wedge. Luckily with not too many people around.”
And that’s it. The video’s almost nine minutes of pure surfing.
But it shows a softer side of The Wedge. Instead of its usual appearance as a hot and horrifying mess, The Wedge that welcomed Ho is small(ish), glassy, and uncrowded.
The Wedge showed Ho its welcoming side, not the one that makes surfers fear for their lives.
As usual, his following showed their support in the comments below:
“Mason got more tube rides at the wedge in one session than most surfers get surfing their entire lives.”
“I’d rather watch Mason Freesurf videos than 95% of surf contests nowadays!”
“Pretty wild you didn’t get the stab YouTube and surfer of the year”
“True but also he was coming back from a big injury. Still #1 in our hearts tho haha”
