Yes, Indonesia has some of the best waves in the world.
But scoring them isn’t as easy as just showing up. Sometimes, the best waves during the best time of year simply refuse to cooperate, even if the swell forecasts predict otherwise.
Last year, while filming for “Glad You Scored”, Dane Reynolds, Rolo Montes, Wade Goodall, Holly Wann, Harry Bryant and co flew to Sumbawa to strike a swell.
What they found was, well, just OK. Sure, it’s overhead with the odd tube and plenty of fun ramps, but if you’ve seen footage of Periscopes when it’s pumping, you know this day rates somewhere around a 4/10, which is why it’s on YouTube, rather than a standalone section in the film. Still, this behind-the-scenes edit is an entertaining watch, and highlights include Harry Bryant’s backside finner at 4:20 (lol), as well as the opening scene scooter crash, smashing (sugar) beer bottles over one another’s heads, and the many, many empty Bintangs scattered around the villa by days end.
Yeah, the Ch.11 crew definitely knows how to have a good time. No matter what the waves look like.
