There has been a hell of a lot of shark footage lately.
News of the good, the bad, and the ugly has been flooding our feeds. It’s emerging from all over the map including Kauai and Oahu, California, and Baja.
Yesterday, a shark bit a 30-year-old surfer at a popular North Shore surf break. Before that, a surfer in Kauai was attacked by a 12 to 15-foot tiger shark. But most shark clips are absolutely beautiful and prove that sharks and surfers usually coexist peacefully.
The shark clip above was shot by ocean photographer and shark advocate Scott Fairchild. He captioned the post:
“Nothing quite like being followed by a Great White Shark!”
The video shows a pretty beefy great white shark just hanging out by a stand-up paddler in Southern California, where Fairchild gets a lot of his shark footage.
The water is crystal clear and gorgeous affording us such a good look at the shark.
One viewer asked:
“What is the likelihood that the shark would attack/bite if the SUP rider fell off and into the water?”
Fairchild replied: “Would certainly add commotion and interest, but I’ve seen that happen countless times, and the shark just takes notice and moves on.”
The viewer continued:
“That’s so interesting. I always thought that the ocean was Jaws.”
Fairchild said: “We were all misled.”
What’s fun about Fairchild’s posts (in addition to the great footage) is that he likes to interact with viewers in the comments section sharing his shark knowledge. Scroll through them to read some more discussion between him and his followers.
