In case you haven’t heard, “Pipeline is for the f*cking girls!”
That’s what Caity Simmers belted out after winning the Lexus Pipe Pro last month. Molly Picklum finished second, making history as the first woman to score a perfect 10 at Pipeline. Pretty cool, considering women weren’t allowed to compete there until 2020.
And in case you haven’t heard, today’s International Women’s Day. So go hug your mom/sister/aunt/daughter. And if you’re going surfing, give a girl a wave. Chances are she surfs better than you anyway.

Big wave surfer Keala Kennelly shared the footage above, writing:
“So classic! So cool to see me talking about the dream of women getting paid equally decades ago and knowing now myself and others were a big part of making that happen for the future generations. Thanks for posting @nalufilms “
The clip features Kennelly and Rochelle Ballard, both women’s surfing pioneers, talking sexism in surfing.

Five-time world champ Carissa Moore commented:
“So sick! Thank you guys for everything. Women’s surfing wouldn’t be where it is today without all ur hard work and dedication”
Kennelly replied: “@rissmoore10 isn’t it wild to think you probably weren’t even born yet when this was filmed! You have been an integral part of all the positive change. Your incredible surfing over the years has helped justify the women FINALLY getting the respect they deserve. So thank you Champ.”
Another follower chimed in:
“As a 70-year-old surfing female, I would never believe surfing for females would evolve to where it is now. We were seen as complete freaks who garnered zero respect.
“I remember Nat Young famously said ‘women are just a sideshow for the men’ and that was the prevailing attitude. We just ignored it all and kept surfing.
“Then along came you all. Now MY daughters and grandkids are able to do what they want when they want and not have to get in the fights we got into on the daily. Because of y’all. In all things women, never give up, never let down your guard.”
