But Clay Marzo is a surfing wizard. The first to master the frontside layback in the tube, Marzo sees things differently. So it should be no surprise that, during a recent trip to Indonesia, Marzo grabbed a 4’6” Catch Surf and paddled out solo to a marginally rideable wave, where he proceeded make the tiny board and shallow slab look remarkably fun. From backdooring the barrel, to going up and through the lip, Marzo does things you wouldn’t even dream on a foamie with plastic fins.
