In what’s been an “off” season (at least by Indo standards), Koa Smith is picking the eyes out of each and every swell.
In June, he packed the tube of the year (so far) at Uluwatu’s bombie and then headed straight to Java to hunt under-the-radar reefs during a two week lull in the swell.
He started July scoring over on G-Land, and ended it in the Ments where he jumped off the plane (err, ferry) and straight into a mean, doubled up swell at HTs.
“Biggest swell of the season, HTs is second reefing, and I feel like all my preparation is leading up to this moment,” says Smith, on the morning of the big swell, walking out from his beachfront villa and straight into the ocean. “Feeling lots of butterflies in my stomach right now.”

Guess who got the wave of the day?
