The North Shore woke up from its summer slumber after getting slammed by a huge winter swell about a month ago. Since then, we’ve been treated to consistent footage of the North Shore’s best surfers getting good waves.
John John and Nathan Florence scored “huge and unruly” Pipeline on a big Wednesday. Koa Rothman shared footage of the North Shore crew enduring “chaos and carnage” and WSL commentator Strider Wasilewski got eaten alive by a massive barrel that broke his eardrum.
Meanwhile, Jamie O’Brien—who wakes up at Pipeline every day—recently claimed the “best” wave of his life at his home break. On another day, he scored “firing” Pipe with friends.
O’Brien’s latest vlog above dropped yesterday and he titled it:
“Massive Swell Slams the North Shore XXL”
And that’s what O’Brien and friends surf in the edit. During the first half, O’Brien tows into waves at the North Shore’s outer reefs and the second part is POV footage from Pipe.
Needless to say, watching one of the North Shore’s best tube riders surf is always fun.
After the outer reef session O’Brien says:
“Outer reef session, that was so fun. You gotta love it when the waves get big here, and it’s early season, it’s still November and we got a big swell.
He added:
“We had a blast overall, that was an epic time.”
The video got viewers amped up. A few shared a few suggestions below:
“Bro this POV sesh was super dope! Would love to see like a breakdown on what happens when you get caught inside or how the currents pull you back down or something!”
“Do some more sessions with Lucas…haven’t seen that guy in forever. you guys were great together.”
