Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know Skeleton Bay was all-time last week, and that 100s of surfers from all around the world dropped everything to fly in, hoping to score the barrel of their lives somewhere along Namibia’s miles-long sandspit.
And many of them did. Including Koa Smith, which is saying a lot considering how barreled he’s already been.
“Sitting out there today, I realized this is as good as surfing gets,” says Smith, “I got two crazy waves in a row, and I kick out to see Benji [Brand] getting a barrel all the way from the top to the bottom.”
This isn’t the first edit we’ve seen from the recent swell at Skelton, nor will it be the last. But, it’s the first one to come out without a single GoPro POV clip. Not that the POV perspective isn’t rad, it’s just so much more entertaining watching Smith, Brand, Brett Barley, Nate Florence, and more streak through miles long tubes at 20+ mph from the land angle.
For that reason alone, this is the best edit we’ve seen from the swell. It really does the wave justice.
