With the first XXL swell of the winter happening before December 1, El Nino is officially off to a fast start. And the Black Friday edits from Hawaii are pouring in.
Huge Waimea. Massive Jaws. XL Outer Reefs.
As always, Nate Florence’s take on the day is one of the best, with Florence giving us an honest perspective of everything that went down, starting before the sun even came up.
“The first buoy starts to hit, and it’s way bigger…double the size of what it’s supposed to be,” Florence says calmly, driving to the beach in the dark to jump on a ski and head out to one of the reefs on Oahu that can handle a 20 foot swell. “I like to paddle, and push the limits of paddle, so I stayed here to bet on these outer reefs doing what they did last time, if it’s big enough.”
As you’ll see, that bet paid off. Big time. Florence and friends were met with a bluebird day — 20 foot plus barreling left slabs under light local winds. As good as it gets, really.
The first clip (7:28) is absolutely psychotic, and the edit only gets better from there.
