It’s not supposed to look this easy. Surely at some point during his globetrotting over the last few years, Nathan Florence has gotten skunked, had a shocker session, or (inconceivably) not gotten barrelled. And yet his YouTube output would suggest otherwise.
In the midst of a swell bender slamming the Indonesian archipelago, Nathan found himself at Hollow Trees staring into a recognizable roll-in and double-overhead tubes. For someone used to making technical late drops and weaving through sections, Lance’s relatively straightforward roll-in must have felt like a gift served on a silver-platter. Which was fitting, as the session came just after his 30th birthday.

And what a session it was. Large and pristine, adjectives cease to do much legwork when you’re getting tubes like this over and over again. Beach House’s “Space Song,” a fantastic choice for slow-motion clips, adds to the surrealism of the scene. Dream state aside, Lance’s Right is heavier than it looks, which is saying something. Just look at the carnage peppered throughout the video. And yet Nathan doesn’t fall off his 6’4″ until his last wave of the session. Crazy.
Another remarkable fact from this bender: Lance’s wasn’t even Nathan’s first session of the day. He scored Greenbush in the morning. Stay tuned for that one soon.
