Shaun Manners is one of the most in-demand freesurfers in the world right now.
Earlier this year, he released his “Cult of Freedom” part with Globe, and it’s in the running for the best surf edit of 2023. At the time, he had just landed the covers of Surfing World and The Surfer’s Journal in the same month, signed the first major contract with Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson’s brand Former, and placed second in Stab High.
To add a cherry on top of an already exceptional year, Former has just released this very good 22-minute documentary film about Manners, called “Growing Normal on the Phone.”
“This is a 22 minute documentary film about the life and mind of Australia surfer; Shaun Manners,” Former writes in the description of the film. “It’s a story told over the phone through the voices of those closest to him. Directed & edited by Toby Cregan, the project follows Shaun as a young kid from Western Australia just trying to keep up, to now being one of the most talented, productive and explosive personalities in and out of the water.”
Whenever you’ve got 22 minutes, hit play. Manners’ surfing and story are worth your time.
