Kai Lenny is always blowing our minds.
If he’s not winning SUP championships, racing between Hawaiian islands, tow-surfing with horses, charging huge Jaws, or ripping on a snowboard, he’s coming up with another way to baffle us.
And in a recent sit down with fellow waterman James Casey on The Casey Catch Up, we learned that Lenny also invented downwind foiling.
The podcast, which is over an hour long, was captioned:
“Kai was kind enough to invite me over to his place to talk downwind foil. We delve into how he got into downwind foiling, the evolution of the sport and what an incredible race M2M was, mainly due to the numbers on the start line.”
Earlier this month, both watermen completed the 27-mile Maui to Moloka’i Challenge on foil boards with paddles in hand. Lenny took fifth place.
This weekend, the guys will tackle the Moloka’i to Oahu Paddleboard World Championships.
“You kind of invented downwind foiling,” Casey said to Lenny early on in the interview.
From there, the rest of it covers the evolution of the sport and how Lenny grows with it.
The people that viewed the interview got pretty psyched up. Check out some of the comments:
“Thanks for going to make an interesting M2O channel race. Looking forward to documenting it.”
“Great interview, going to be an epic crossing. Best of luck”
“Really enjoyed this talk thanks for sharing guys”
“Great discussion before this weekend’s race”
“Great interview legends đź–’has anyone tried using a squirrel suit zip un zip type setup like the base jumpers”
