Tahiti’s Teahupo’o is notorious for being one of the world’s heaviest lefthand reef breaks.
Nicknamed “Chopes” for short, it’s legendary for its huge barrels that appear to break below sea level with insanely thick lips that make most surfers happy to stay in the boat watching from the channel.
The break has been selected as the battleground for the 2024 Paris Olympics where the world’s best surfers will go for the gold. But, it’s been making headlines lately as Tahitians have peacefully protested and petitioned the $5 million aluminum judging tower Olympic Games organizers want to construct at the break.
So it seems like a good time to appreciate Teahupo’o in all of her glory. Lately, we’ve seen epic edits from Surfing Visions and another featuring Roxy girls getting pitted at Teahupo’o.
Today, we’ve got another one for you.
SwellPatrol captioned the edit above:
“Experience Teahupo’o’s Giant Dream Waves and Nightmare Wipeouts
“Relaxing music Relax, sit back, chill and watch Teahupo’o close up”
The video features surfers Nathan Florence, Kalani Rivero, Eimeo Czerma, Ivan Florence, Koa Rothman, Jake Maki, Kai Lenny, Balaram Stack, and Noah Beschen.
It got good feedback from viewers in the comments below:

“Thanks again, guys! Eimeo is a psycho. Aloha!”
“Thanks for the wonderful slo mo footage with who is in em! Wonder what percent of” that huge crowd never drop in?”
