The title Terror Vault 5 sounds like the fifth film in a sequence of classic horror films.
And that’s essentially what it is, the surfing version of whatever horror movie terrified you as a kid.
But the reality is that the latest compilation of wipeouts from cinematographer Tim Bonython is so much worse. It’s what surfer’s nightmares are made of.
Surfing Visions captioned the video above:
“Terrifying mad moments & crazy wipeouts shot at some of the best big wave spots on the planet. I have been chasing waves for over 45 years now and this is some of the craziest 12 minutes of mayhem shot at NAZARE, MULLAGHMORE, MAVERICKS & PEAHI/JAWS.”
The video is around 12 minutes of back-to-back wipeouts, all on huge bombs at some of the world’s most respected—and feared— big wave surf spots.
People charging what look like 100-foot waves get stuck in the lip and sucked over the falls, plow down the faces, and the biggest, scariest explosions of whitewash ever hitting people on jet skis.
Check out the film. It puts those “wipeouts” on head-high days into perspective.
Comments on the video include:
“There’s a say, “If the Mountain comes to you, run, it’s an avalanche!”. Incredible images of incredible surfers surfing insane waves! Thank you! ps the idea of going all together, in an inflatable boat, at Nazaré, hats off!”
“Dial 911! One of the most dynamic edits I’ve seen in a very long time. Nice work Tim.”
“5:20 getting bounced around like that? That must’ve hurt. Not that the others are any less violent though. Big respect for everyone out there”
“Sickest ever jetski save at 9:40 I am still in awe. Music was fire too and the footage”
