Surfers are constantly striking big swells in Indonesia.
But how many are chasing big tides?
Dylan Graves recently flew to Indo to chase the elusive 7-Ghosts: A wild tidal phenom that creates rideable waves way, way up the Kampar River. And it’s not just some miles long novelty. As you’ll see, the 7-Ghosts is a legit wave, with rippable sections that resemble a pointbreak in the ocean, and — during a once-in-a-decade tide — can even serve up a slabbing tube.
“A bucket list surf adventure to a tidal phenomenon that occurs in the Kampar River,” writes Graves. “I have always wanted to check this place out ever since I saw Rip Curl’s “Search” edit on this wave that they released in 2011. In this video I break my whole experience down, from what I learn about the Bono, to the locals who surf it, and even a little behind the scenes of the iconic “Search” trip in 2011.”
Click play above for a super interesting and detailed breakdown from the trip. It might just have you researching the next super moon tide in Indo.
At least The Bono is a guaranteed way to beat the crowds.
