Colloquially, bodysurfing is often called “body whomping.”
That’s because, at most bodysurfing spots, the waves break almost directly onshore; and the bodysurfers, themselves, well, they get totally whomped. Sand in all orifices.
Like this guy below, and this insane mutant of a wave.
The clip comes from Bodysurf Brazil, and through a poor translation, they write:
“@garridodavii, is dead but well!
“Shorebreak breeding in Itaipuaçu 💥
“Tag that friend who is also a ‘headache’ 🤯
“Video: ?
“Note: Respect your limits and know the peak where you’re having fun”

It’s pretty harrowing stuff. Like the Wedge on steroids. Or a cousin of the famed Newport Beach, CA surf and bodysurf spot that’s been exposed to Chernobyl. But Davi Garrido goes for it, regardless, and according to the caption, he’s okay…sorta.
As for the location, it comes from Itaipuaçu Beach. Here’s a bit more about the spot, and how it works from Surf-Forecast:
“Itaipuacu in Rio de Janeiro is an exposed reef break that only works once in a while. Summer in particular tends to be flat. The best wind direction is from the northeast with some shelter here from southwest winds. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest. Both left (best) and right reef breaks.. Rarely crowded here. Beware of rips and rocks.”

By the looks of it, Itaipuaçu can get quite heavy. Deadly even, if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Jokingly, and as translated, someone commented on the clip:
“Did they find the body?”
