Wavegarden is the longest tenured wavepool technology, with six locations operating around the world, and many more in the planning stages. But, until recently, it was missing one key ingredient: an air section.
In this clip, Wavegarden invites a handful of surfing’s best aerialists to join them at four of their marquee locations: Wave Park in South Korea, URBNSURF in Australia, Alaïa Bay in Switzerland and Praia da Grama in Brazil. The goal? Work together to build the best artificial air section out there.
Pretty crazy to watch Luke Swanson ask the engineers — including CEO Josema Odriozola — for a certain type of wave using total surf jargon, and have them translate his thoughts into data, input that data into the computer, and then spit out a section that’s exactly what he wants. Backflips, full-rotes, huge straight-airs…after a little collaboration between Swanson and co, any air is now possible.
So when will these new waves be available to the public? “The creation of these new waves is possible due to our new and vastly superior software program, which offers a level of flexibility and a range of possibilities previously impossible,” says Wavegarden. “The software at all Wavegarden facilities is being updated to incorporate these additional waves and hopefully they will be available to the public soon.”
A little cryptic, but let’s be honest: How many non-professionals actually want to hit these wild sections anyway?
