The spirit of Evel Knievel is coming to the Palm Springs Surf Club. While the late motorcycle daredevil was known for many record-breaking stunts, perhaps the most enduring one, which he still holds today, is the Guinness World Record for “most broken bones in a lifetime” – a staggering 433.
On Saturday, June 21st, motocross stuntman Colby Raha will go for his own world record (and hopefully no broken bones) at the Palm Springs Surf Club, the California desert’s premier manmade surf spot. He’ll attempt a 200-foot jump to flat landing on his motorcycle. The current world record is held by Bob Gill at 171-feet, which he pulled off in 1973. Now, over 50 years later, Raha is gunning for the title. And there’s a handful of other stunt shenanigans on tap, too.
“June 21st, here at the Palm Springs Surf Club, I’ve got the opportunity to go for a world record that hasn’t been broken in over 50 years,” Raha told local news ahead of the event. “It’s 171-foot to flat landing, currently held by Bob Gill in 1973. Nobody’s broken it, and I’m going for it. I’m gonna get up to speeds about 100 miles an hour. I’m setting my sites on 200 [feet] to flat.”

Other activities planned for the extreme sports extravaganza on June 21st include skateboarding from Aaron “Jaws” Homoki and Boo Johnson, BMX from Andrew Topa, Kole Voelker, and Dennis Enarson, and a “Never Been Done” surf invitational hosted by Bruce Irons and Nathan Fletcher.
Details are scarce on the latter; however, Bruce expressed his excitement about the pool and the upcoming event: “To have a wave pool, getting to surf in the desert, it’s a cool thing. I really like the concept of these wave pools. This wave pool packs a lot of power. It’s meant to hold a good venue. And June 21st is a day you’re not gonna wanna miss.”
