A member of the surf community is fighting cancer and he could use a little help right now.
Up-and-coming young surf filmmaker Hayden Garfield has been diagnosed with cancer and is in recovery following two surgeries that removed a tumor from his leg.
Garfield is fighting Adamantinoma, a rare bone cancer that doesn’t respond to chemotherapy or radiation.
Garfield’s mother, who’s also a cancer survivor, created an online fundraiser to help his recovery. In the post above, Garfield asks for help, writing:
“Dear cancer, acknowledging our time together, I’ve faced fear and felt strength, helplessness and care, sadness and happiness, anger and calmness.
“Experiencing the true power of love and support, I express gratitude to those who’ve reached out recently. Your support fueled strength beyond imagination, enabling me to overcome negativity, anxiety, and stress.
“Today, I break my private nature, embracing vulnerability and seeking help. I’ve dealt with a tumor on my left tibia for two years, initially deemed benign. Recent growth revealed a rare bone cancer, Adamantinoma. A significant surgery removed the tumor yesterday, and now the journey towards recovery begins.
“Grateful for everyone’s support, I anticipate a challenging yet hopeful path ahead. Seriously so much gratitude to each one of you for the immense love. Appreciate it. And a special thank you to my mom for being a huge inspiration during this difficult time @cancersavedmylife.
“And so grateful for my amazing girlfriend who has been by my side through all of this, I love you Julia @worldojulia Having undergone two surgeries, I’m in good spirits. Close monitoring is essential to prevent any recurrence, and we’re patiently awaiting the doctor’s updates. #fuckcancer“
