Summertime on the east coast is not the best time for surf.
The Atlantic gets sleepy in the summer, as compared to the winter, making it a mostly uneventful season when it comes to catching waves.
But that doesn’t stop New Jersey surf vlogger, Ben Gravy.
In his most recent vlog, Gravy still finds small waves around home, and even has, what he calls, a “hilarious shark scare.” Hilarious? Not a word typically used in these situations, but sure.
“I saw him on the inside,” Ben recounts, talking about his friend who was surfing with him during the sighting, “and he was like, ‘What the f*ck is that?’ When I saw it, I ran to the rocks. I wasn’t going to sacrifice the set though. I was going, ‘Film it!’”
People love sharks. Or rather, people hate sharks, but they love watching videos of them. And that’s Gravy’s, well, gravy train being a YouTube vlogger.
But sharks on the east coast are a real thing. Just recently, a 15-year-old was attacked by a shark while surfing in New Jersey. She was fine, but Gravy couldn’t help but mention the coincidence with his encounter:
“Interesting factoid, there was a shark bite in New Jersey this summer. A little girl got bit on her leg, and she ended up being completely fine. That’s definitely a good thing that she’s okay. But there has not been a shark attack in New Jersey in, I think the claim was, 100 years.
So, are there more sharks around lately? Or more surfers? Maybe both.
