Think back to 2009. Simpler times. Michael Jackson died (sad); Sully Sullenberger landed an airplane filled with birds in the engine, saving everyone’s lives on the Hudson River (happy); the first Avatar hit theaters as the highest-grossing film ever (meh).
It was also the year that a little show began on MTV: Jersey Shore. It featured a cast of down and dirty 20-somethings, eager to fornicate, fight, and funnel booze down their gullets. It was a smash success; people loved the show, the same way they love rubbernecking at a wreck on the freeway. And since then, there’s been countless spinoffs.
Now, Hawaii is getting its turn with O’ahuShores. See the trailer below.
According to Peacock, the streaming channel where the show will premiere: “In Hawaii, the word ‘ohana’ means family. For this bold, vibrant, and tight-knit group of friends, they love and argue just like family. These young Hawaiian locals are stepping out of their parents’ expectations and carving their own paths while still embracing their culture. As they navigate love, face heartbreak, and test friendship loyalties, this group proves life on the island has just as much shade as there is sun.”
Judging by the trailer, it looks like they’ve taken the tried-and-true Jersey Shore recipe, drizzled in heaps of thong bikinis, sprinkled in blue Hawaiian waters, and chopped up the occasional surf session. And it’s all topped with a delicious garnish of drama.

The clip also features classic tropes for reality TV: threesomes, bros being bros, the women of the posse arguing and gossiping, and one character screaming at another, “I wanna punch you in the fucking face.”
But in the end, they’re all Ohana.
While the show aired previously, all episodes of OahuShores drop on Peacock October 9th.
