Dylan Longbottom’s daughter, Summa, is as crazy as he is.
The day before this footage was shot, Longbottom suffered a brutal wipeout at Shipsterns Bluff. While he thought he was OK afterwards, it turns out he was far from it. He actually had 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung.
But, rather than go to the hospital, he stayed around to watch his daughter Summa surf this absolutely mental slab the next day. Every bit of 10-feet, it’s a marginally surfable wave, yet Summa tows into the biggest bombs of the day and rides them to perfection. When you consider she’s a goofy, and tackled this wave going backside, it’s even more impressive.
It’s crazy that while Longbottom was on the cliff cheering on his daughter (can you imagine watching your daughter whip into these waves?), he was literally bleeding from the inside, and he had no idea.
“Once back he saw a doctor and got told to go straight to hospital where he was diagnosed with 4 heavily broken ribs, a punctured lung with a lot blood that was drained out overnight,” Tim Bonython, who shot this footage, wrote on Instagram. “That flight could have killed him. As we speak he’s in getting surgery as those ribs simply snapped. He told me he’ll be ok which is good. So we all wish him the best with a speedy recovery.”
All’s well that ends well, but the Longbottom’s are obviously built different.
