“Rumor around town says you might be thinkin’ ’bout goin’ down to the shore.”
“Uh, yeah, I think I’m gonna go down to the shore.”
“What ya gonna do down there?”
If your answer is play some video games and buy some Def Leppard T-shirts you need to stop listening to the Dead Milkmen’s seminal “Bitchin’ Camero” for a second and get hip to Vissla’s Cosmic Shore tour coming to New Jersey in July.
Last month the Cosmic Creek Surf Festival went off in Dana Point, California, with a bombing swell, surfboard shaping on the beach, indie Turkish jam bands at the Ecology Center and so much more. Looking to keep the good times rolling, Vissla’s passing the dutchie to the right hand side starting the week of July 8.
The Cosmic Shores tour gets rolling at Manasquan Inlet on July 8, then heads to Ship Bottom on July 9, before wrapping up at Margate Pier on July 11.
“Each stop will feature a full day of surf competition in true Cosmic Creek style: surfers riding vintage crafts from the 70s and 80s in single fin and twin fin heats, celebrating the eras that shaped modern surf,” reports our friends at Vissla.
And here’s where it really gets good, really good. All Cosmic Shores events are open to the public. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how hard you shred, all comers are welcome as long as you’re down to get groovy. Sign-up here!
But wait, there’s more. Oh yes, so much more. When the sun does down Vissla’s hosting the first-ever U.S. premieres of “Friction of Perception,” a new film starring Aussie lord Liam O’Brien, chronicling his journey through surf, style, and self.
Vissla’s Cosmic events rank among the most fun in surfing today. You just can’t go wrong in an event where you have to draw a card to determine what board you’ll be riding … and there are no interference rules. If you’re thinking about getting in on the action, don’t wait to sign-up now as these things fill up faster than white lightning.
