Last week Nate Florence posted this wave from an unnamed slab in Australia to his Instagram, and it went viral, with many calling it the best wave ever ridden. While recency bias is definitely at play, this wave certainly deserves to be in that “top rides of all time” conversation.
While we debate where exactly this ride ranks in surfing history, let’s hear how Florence feels about it:
“As far as surfing a barrel frontside… the size, the intensity of the session, gear I’m not used to, the booties and the gloves and the wetsuit. And on a 7’0″ that I’ve never ridden but turned out to be one of the best boards ever, this wave that I rode? It’s right up there…”
